(KCEN) -- A homeless veteran in Houston was issued a ticket by police on Monday after he was caught digging for food in a trash can.
James Kelly was searching for discarded donuts when a cop cited him for disturbing the contents of a garbage can.
But now many are criticizing the police department for their actions.
And the 48-year-old Navy vet says he is humbled by the support.
Kelly said, "All too often, you feel nobody cares whether you live or die, but hearing the support does my heart good."
Kelly is scheduled to be in court next month.
His attorney hopes to convince a judge to dismiss the charge.
