South Padre Packed With Students for Spring Break

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- You might have noticed more cars headed for the Texas coast.

It's spring break and thousands of young people are making their way to South Padre Island to have some fun.

Around 20,000 people were on Coca Cola Beach on Wednesday.

They were entertained by multiple paragliders, landing on the beach just feet away from the crowd.

And to try to make sure spring breakers were staying out of jail and remaining safe on the road, an organization called Beach Reach is giving free rides to students.

David Griffin with Beach Reach said, "Obviously a lot students are drinking alcohol out here and we do not want them behind the wheels, so we are out here giving them free rides."

TxDOT workers were also handing out water bottles and encouraging the students to take the Beach Reach vans or taxis to their hotels.
