WACO, Texas – The 18th-ranked Baylor women's golf team is headed to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the 2013 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, which begins Friday at the University of Florida's Mark Bostick Golf Course.
The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted at the par-70, 6,074-yard course. Tee times for Friday and Saturday begin at 8 a.m., while Sunday's championship round will tee off with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
The Baylor lineup is one of the nation's youngest, with sophomore and 2012 All-American (1) Hayley Davis as the only player with a full year of collegiate experience. The Lady Bears lineup has four freshmen, including (4) Laura Lonardi who joined the program in January, and (2) Lauren Taylor, (3) Emma Carberry and (5) Natalia Perez. The top four scores from each day will contribute to the team's final score.
Baylor will be competing against 14 other schools, including four of the nation's top-10 ranked teams: No. 5 Florida, No. 3 Alabama, No. 42 Florida International, No. 49 Florida State, Kent State, Miami, Mississippi St., No. 6 North Carolina, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 21 Oklahoma State, San Diego State, South Florida, UT-Chattanooga and No. 15 Virginia. The Lady Bears are coming off of a seventh-place finish at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans. Hayley Davis earned her first career medalist honors after shooting 4-under-par 68 in the championship round. Lauren Taylor finished second for Baylor and tied for 35th place individually.
Baylor finished in ninth place at last season's Gator Women's Invitational, and Davis led the Lady Bears at 7-over-par 217, which tied for ninth individually.
