West Texas Couple Will Not Face Charges in Death of Adopted Russian Son

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A couple from west Texas won't face charges in the controversial death of their adopted Russian son.

Three-year-old Max died suddenly in January.

The case sparked international attention after Russian officials claimed the boy was murdered by Allen and Laura Shatto.

An autopsy report and investigation showed that there was no evidence of abuse.

And any bruising was self-inflicted due to the child's previously diagnosed behavioral disorder.

The boy's death was ruled accidental after he hit his head on a piece of playground equipment.

Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland said, "The truth of the matter is this was an accident. It's a tragic death involving a three-year-old."

The grand jury no billed the Shattos, meaning they will not face any criminal charges.
