(KCEN) -- Six suspected illegal immigrants were killed when an over-full truck crashed into a military base checkpoint in Kingsville.
It happened around 11 on Wednesday night when police tried to pull over a truck with 15 illegal immigrants inside.
While trying to escape police, the truck turned into a naval air station and drove through the first checkpoint.
But they didn't make it past a second checkpoint, slamming into a barrier.
Jon Gagne with the Kleberg County Sheriff's department said, "Our gate guard did exactly what he was supposed to do. He stepped out to observe the vehicle coming in and greet the vehicle as he normally would. But the vehicle did not stop, it went through there at a high rate of speed. He notified the inside front gate and the barrier was deployed."
Six people inside were killed.
The other nine were injured. Some of them were riding in the bed of the truck.
According to police, many of the passengers were from Honduras.
