Baylor senior Daniel Jones, from North Richland Hills, Texas, collapsed Saturday morning in Waco.
He was near the finish line of the Bearathon, a Student Foundation event that raises money for student scholarships.
He was treated immediately by medical personnel on the scene and transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he passed away about an hour later.
"Because Baylor is such a close university community, we are especially saddened to lose one of our students. Daniel was a bright young man with a strong faith who was very involved on campus as a member of Kappa Omega Tau fraternity and former member of Student Foundation. Those who were close to Daniel knew how he overcame adversity during his lifetime including the loss of his mother at age 11 to a drunk driver. Our university chaplain has been in contact with Daniel's aunt and uncle and is at the hospital to provide support for Daniel's family, friends and classmates. The university will hold a time to gather in remembrance of Daniel within the next few days," said a Baylor University spokesperson.
