Neighbors Help Fight Grass Fire Near Home

Posted: Updated:

Fast-thinking neighbors helped keep a grass fire from spreading to a home in Moody.

Bell County firefighters were dispatched to a mobile home in the 10000 block of Berry Rd. Tuesday afternoon.

Neighbors called 911 after they noticed smoke coming from underneath the home.

They used a water hose to douse the flames until fire crews arrived on scene.

"It appears to be a small grass fire turned into a larger grass fire because they didn't mow their grass," said Bell Co. Fire Marshal Steve Casey.

Casey said they were fortunate to get water on the grass fire before it reached the inside of the home.

He urged homeowners to be diligent in keeping their grass cut during this time of year when hot, dry conditions coupled with high grass can make your home more susceptible to fire.
