(KCEN) - One student is dead and multiple others have been stabbed, according to authorities on the scene of Spring High School outside Houston, TX.

KPRC reported an 18-year-old male student was killed in the altercation.

A 16-year-old male student was transported by medical helicopter. A dispatcher for the air ambulance at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston confirmed the boy was transported shortly before 8 a.m. CDT. The dispatcher did not know the severity of the boy's injuries.

Three other students were also reportedly injured in the altercation.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says it responded about 7 a.m. Wednesday to Spring High School to a report of a stabbing. Spring is about 20 miles north of Houston.

Multiple emergency vehicles were seen at the entrance to the school.

According to Houston NBC affiliate KPRC, the school nurse contacted emergency crews and reported five stabbing victims.

Authorities told the media that all the victims in the stabbing were students. KPRC and other media sources said one of the victims has died.

KPRC said the stabbing may have occurred in the cafeteria. The TV station also reported two people had been taken into custody.

Spring High School is in the Cy-Fair Independent School District in Houston.
