Whooping Cough on Rise in Texas

(KCEN) -- Whooping cough is on the rise in Texas.

State health officials say the number of people affected is on track to reach the highest level in more than 50 years.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is urging people to make sure they are vaccinated against the highly contagious disease.

There have been almost 2,000 cases reported this year.

Two infants died, both were too young to be vaccinated.

Whooping cough spreads easily through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes.

While infants are most at risk, people of all ages can get whooping cough.

    (KXAS) -- Dallas homicide detectives say a woman was killed by her boyfriend after a fight over the man's electric wheelchair. According to the Dallas police, 71-year-old Robert Coleman admitted to stabbing his 43-year-old girlfriend, though he claims it was in self-defense. Coleman told Dallas police that he had let the woman borrow his electric wheelchair to go to the store.
