UPDATE: Arrest Made in Copperas Cove Bomb Threat

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: On Thursday, Jason Alan Garthwaite Sr. appeared before a Waco Federal Judge for his charges, and he will stay in custody.

A complaint released today also gave more insight to the two bomb scares. The document states Garthwaite's wife came to the Copperas Cove Police Station because she was suspicious of one of her husband's bags.

She told police she received a text message from her husband wanting her to remove the bag from their home at 420 7st Street. She then went to police.

Shortly after, officers and the Fort Hood bomb squad arrived at their home and found what they believe to be pipe bombs and pipe bomb making materials.

Garthwaite is now charged with having a prohibited weapon and endangering a child because his three-year-old son was left at home alone with him.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m., Sept. 11, 2013 -- On Wednesday, Jason Alan Garthwaite Sr. was arrested and charged with abandoning a child and prohibited weapon.

Garthwaite is being held at the Coryell County Jail. His bond has been set at $150,000.

The Copperas Cove Police Department and the ATF continue to investigate the incident.

Additional federal charges are pending.
