WACO, Texas - Colorado (8-1) took the Baylor Invitational by sweeping the Bears (4-7) to finish 3-0 in the round-robin tournament Saturday night at the Ferrell Center. The Buffaloes beat the Bears 25-21, 25-23, 25-11 and got a pair of double-doubles from tournament MVP Nicole Edelman and Taylor Simpson.
Edelman helped Colorado beat Appalachian State, Northwestern State, and Baylor by pacing the Buffaloes' .249 hitting percentage for the tournament. She finished with 32 assists and 14 digs in the win over Baylor. Simpson hit .133 with 11 kills and 13 digs on the match for Colorado.
The Bears dropped set one 25-21and tried to rebound in set two but squandered leads of 15-10 and 23-20 to fall 25-23. Alexis Austin had two consecutive kills to tie the score and take the lead for Colorado at 24-23. Then, Kerra Schroeder took an Edelman set for the final kill of the second set.
However, in set three, it was all Buffs as Colorado held Baylor's offense to a negative -.156 hitting percentage to close out the match. In the losing effort, Baylor's Zoe Adom had seven kills. The Bears hit just .035 for the match, the second-lowest output of the season next to Baylor's .019 hitting effort Sept. 6 in a loss to Tulsa. Thea Munch-Soegaard and Adrien Richburg were named to the all-tournament team for Baylor. Colorado's Edelman was joined by tournament defensive MVP Schroeder, Austin and Cierra Simpson.
