Teen Who Died After Ant Attack Remembered Monday Morning at School

Posted: Updated:

(KRIS - CORPUS CHRISTI) -- The Haas Middle School student and football player who was attacked by ants last week during a football game has died.

School administrators began Monday's school day with a moment of silence after the announcement of Cameron Espinosa's death.

Counselors are on hand Monday to support students and staff.

Espinosa fell into an ant bed during the middle school football game last Wednesday night.

The teen lost consciousness twice before medics arrived at the field. The medics were doing CPR as they rushed him to Bay Area Hospital, before he was transferred to Driscoll Children's Hospital.

On the Corpus Christi Independent School District's Facebook page, officials announced all Haas Middle School athletic activities and extra curricular events will be canceled for the rest of the week.
