US Department of Labor Funds Texas Re-Employment Assistance

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- The U.S. Department of Labor announced a National Emergency Grant to provide re-employment assistance for Texas workers on Monday.

The $4,131,089 grant will benefit the approximately 1,120 Texas workers affected by layoffs at Fort Hood in Killeen and the Red River Army Depot in Texarkana.

The grant was awarded to the Texas Workforce Commission to provide affected workers with the training and other services necessary to complete high-demand occupations in their local areas.

Of the total grant amount announced, $2,391,662 will be released initially. Additional funding up to the maximum amount will be made available as the state demonstrates a continued need for assistance.

National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary of Labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.

More information on these grants is available at www.doleta.gov/NEG
