Two Killed in East Texas Tour Bus Crash

Posted: Updated:

(KXAS) -- Two people were killed when a tour bus crashed overnight in East Texas, KETK-TV in Tyler reports.

The crash took place at about 1 a.m. along U.S. Highway 59 between Carthage and Marshall, near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1974.

Texas State Troopers told KETK that the driver of the El Expreso tour bus was headed north when he learned a passenger had been left behind at a truck stop.

While the driver attempted to make a u-turn, he collided with a sand hauler, KETK reported.

The bus driver and one of his passengers died after being thrown from the bus. The driver of the sand hauler was flown to a hospital in Tyler in an unknown condition.

Several other passengers were injured and were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries. Those that were not injured were eventually placed on another bus.

KETK reported the bus was headed to Chicago from Houston.
