Lenz Captures HEB Intercollegiate Singles Title

WACO, Texas –Baylor men's tennis sophomore Julian Lenz won the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate singles title on Sunday with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over teammate Patrick Pradella at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Lenz, ranked No. 38 in the country and seeded No. 2 in the singles draw, went 4-0 over three days of action to claim the title.

Lenz advanced to the final match, after his semifinal opponent and teammate Tony Lupieri withdrew from the event with an injury.

Pradella reached the singles final by taking care of fifth-seeded and 85th-ranked Axel Alvarez, 7-6(1), 6-4, earlier in the day on Sunday.

On the weekend, Baylor players were 18-7 in singles matches with Lupieri sporting a 3-0 record and Pradella owning a 4-1 mark. 

HIGHLIGHTS

·         Baylor players have now won the HEB Intercollegiate singles title for three straight years and for nine of the last 13 seasons.

·         Lenz becomes the seventh different Bear to earn the crown.

·         Junior Mate Zsiga had won the singles draw the past two seasons.

·         Junior Diego Galeano posted two back draw wins on Sunday. Both wins were 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
