(KXAS) -- The family of a 13-year-old boy that nearly drowned at a summer camp hosted by Cowboys players is suing current and former players for more than a million dollars.

According to documents filed in the lawsuit, the family of James Jackson, Jr. and their attorneys argue the players let Jackson and several other campers go swimming in the pool without proper supervision.

Jackson was found floating in the pool after having nearly drowned and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The four-day camp at the University of North Texas started on July 11, 2013. Jackson was found in the pool that first night. UNT says lifeguards were on duty at the time.

The suit targets defensive end Anthony Spencer, who the camp is named after, wide receiver Miles Austin, cornerback Brandon Carr, former player Sterling Moore, and Sports International, the organizer of the camp.

The suit claims the players should pay for the teen's "pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, medical bills, and future loss of earning capacity."

NBC 5 reached out to the Cowboys for comment on the lawsuit, but had not received a response at press time.

Dallas County court records did not show when a hearing in the case would occur. According to the Dallas County District Court website, Moore and Spencer haven't officially been notified of the suit.

(KCEN) – While the homeless veteran count is dropping nationwide, Killeen and Temple are seeing a spike in the number of homeless veterans – and it's not just individual veterans. “We're seeing more homeless families, and we've seen an increase in that over the last few months because of the downsizing of the military,” Paula Wood said. “It's very sad to look a family in the eye and say do you have a friend or family member you can stay with because it's going to take a month to get you re-ho...More >>
