(KXAN) - Fayette County officials say a lightning strike is responsible for setting an oil tank on fire in a small town near La Grange.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said the oil tank was sitting at the La Grange Saltwater Treatment Plant on Highway 71. The scene was dramatic as large flames and heavy black smoke filled the air.

Lightning struck the tank around 6:30 a.m. as thunderstorm moved through the area.

Fire crews from La Grange and Muldoon had the fire knocked out by 8.30 a.m. No injuries were reported but officials said the plant has been damaged due to the fire.
