Chocolate Prices Expected to Rise

Posted: Updated:

(NBC NEWS) -- Chocolate prices may soon be increasing due to dry weather and poor harvest expectations in West Africa, according to a report by Bob Hansen with NBC News.

Apparently, Americans are demanding more chocolate -- so much, that it's affecting our wallets.

According to the report, about 70 percent of Cacao beans come from West African and the dry weather expected is going to hurt to fall harvest.

Consumers' demand for more dark chocolate, which claims to be more healthy, could be driving up the price. Dark chocolate usually takes more cocoa beans to create than milk chocolate.

Cocoa prices are up about 21 percent in the third quarter. Match that with an increased demand and you could see the prices of your chocolate bars skyrocket.

(KCEN) – They told him to wish big… and boy did he. On Monday, just one day after his eighth birthday, Antonio Laguna finally got his Make a Wish. “Lots of waiting,” he laughed just moments before getting to see his greenhouse and orchard. “I’m so excited. It’s going to be fun.” And it was. With the plants in place, his tools waiting, and the red ribbon up, Antonio walked outside to see his dream picking farm. “It’s so amazing,” he giggled standing in his greenhouse. “I can’t believe so many ...More >>
