Dental Technology Similar to Weather Radar

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Dentists are using new technology to show what's going on your mouth.

It's similar to the technology that our own meteorologists use to track weather patterns. We're talking about Doppler radar!

It uses a spectra camera, a device that images the amount of bacteria on your teeth.

It helps dentists find cavities that can't be detected with traditional dental tools, which has become more of a problem with the arrival of fluoride.

The camera works by emitting a special wavelength of light that causes bacteria in the mouth to glow.

The different colors signify the density of the bacteria, with yellow and red being the highest levels.
