Christmas Comes Early for Girl With Brain Tumor

TEMPLE, TX -

(KCEN) – Christmas has come early for little seven-year-old Jayln Martin. On Monday dozens gathered to transform her yard and home into a Christmas wonderland – the last Christmas she may get to enjoy.

Just weeks ago, doctors told Jayln's mother and father, Kristi and Nick, that Jayln's brain tumor is getting larger and that her medication is no longer working. It was news no parent should ever hear.

Their bright eyed and bashful daughter was now declining with the tumor putting pressure on her brain and causing one side of her body to weaken. Hospice informed her family to start making final preparations for Jayln.

Not knowing how long she has to live, the community stepped up to make sure she has the best Christmas yet.

"She wanted it to be glittery, and have snowmen. So we did what we could to put that together and make it happen for her," Paula Rowland said.

Paula, a family friend, immediately went to work along with others in the community to get the biggest and best decorations that Jayln could imagine. And it didn't take long when she and her husband Shane started their shopping at Temple's Home Depot.

"We basically went in there looking for Christmas tree, and maybe some decorations," Shane said. "The guy just said follow me and said load up, to get everything we need."

Much to their surprise, the store's general manager allowed them to pick out more than $1,000 worth of decorations.

Which made for a busy day on Monday, as men walked on the roof hanging lights, others inflated large Santa's and snowmen, and many helped put up the seven foot tree and load it with decorations.

"I knew that by just seeing her, and seeing the smile on her face and how strong she was, that she was somebody we needed to do this for," Paula said.

While it might not be the Christmas season just yet, there is no doubt the holiday cheer is flowing through Temple's community as they allowed Christmas to come early for a little girl who may not live to see the day.
