Waco Tea Party Reacts to Claims of Being a Terror Threat

Posted: Updated:
KILLEEN, TX -

(KCEN)-- On Friday members of the Waco Tea Party said they wanted an apology from Fort Hood officials after troops came forward saying they were told to consider the Tea Party and Evangelical Christians a domestic terror threat alongside radical Muslims. At this time, Fort Hood officials say the claims are unsubstantiated.

A soldier came forward to KCEN on Thursday saying troops were told this during a briefing. He claims they were also told that if they supported or participated in these groups that they could be in violation of military law.

The Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberties also confirmed two soldiers came forward making the same complaints. All three wish to stay anonymous for fear of retaliation.

"It's absurd. I don't know what else to say. It's just crazy," Waco Tea Party President Toby Walker said. "We're just ordinary American citizens. In no way shape or form are we tied to a terrorist organization, and to label us as such because you disagree with our political beliefs is just silly."

Walker says the claims are a slap in the face to thousands of people across the nation who are members of the Tea Party and to those who are Evangelical Christians. While she hopes the soldiers who came forward will not be retaliated against, she does hope members of the military will apologize.

Fort Hood officials say the investigation is ongoing, but at this time there is no information that corroborates the claims.
