Mandatory Gatesville Water Conservation

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- MANDATORY WATER CONSERVATION: Due to a power outage, Gatesville and surrounding communities are at risk of running out of water by this afternoon.

An 8,000-foot long Oncor cable line under Lake Belton is causing the issue. Lightning from the storm may have caused a fault in the cable.

Officials have been working since yesterday to find the break in the cable, 6,400 feet of which are under water. If the break is underwater, it will require special crews for repair.

Gatesville is bringing in a generator from Houston to alleviate the situation. The generator should arrive this afternoon. It will take up to 24-48 hours to get the system fully operational again.

ALL RETAIL AND WHOLESALE CUSTOMERS are asked to conserve water in areas near Gatesville, Coryell City, The Grove, The Flat, North Fort Hood, etc.
