PINK WEEK: Reconstructive Surgery Helping Breast Cancer Patients

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- You may recall, actress Angelina Jolie recently had a Double Mastectomy after she learned she was at high risk for breast cancer.

Having one or both breasts removed is not only physically taxing, it's extremely emotional.

But thanks to the strides made in reconstructive surgery, women can now feel like women again.

Nicole Kepler is proof of that. She admitted that after her diagnosis she couldn't help but think the worst.

"When you're told you have cancer, immediately  you think I'm going to die. There's just no other way to think of it", Nicole said.

Death was simply unacceptable for Nicole. Her young daughter Cheyenne gave her the strength she needed to fight it.

"I wanted to be there for her wedding, and I wanted to be there for her first child. I wanted to be there for all the things we were just starting to do", she said.

Her best option to keep the cancer from coming back is to have her breasts removed.
