Broccoli Salad Recall Over Listeria Worries Expanded

Posted: Updated:

(KXAS) -- A recall of broccoli salad kits over possible listeria contamination in salad dressing has been expanded.

Taylor Farms Texas Inc. and Taylor Farms Maryland Inc. announced on Tuesday that they were recalling about 22,849 pounds of the product, which was shipped to stores and delis in Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. An additional 5,084 of similar products were recalled on Friday.

The refrigerated, ready-to-eat dressing contained in the salad kit is the subject of a recall by Reser's Fine Foods over concerns that it could be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the salad dressing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeria infections primarily affect older adults, pregnant women, newborns and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever and muscle aches and are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms, according to the CDC.

Infections in pregnant women can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or a life-threatening infection in a newborn.

The products being recalled are:

  • 6.06-lb. boxes labeled "Taylor Farms Broccoli Crunch with Bacon and Dressing" with the case code 310151, produced on Oct. 14 through Oct. 24, 2013
