Richardson Named Rotary Lombardi Award Semifinalist

Posted: Updated:

HOUSTON – Baylor senior offensive lineman Cyril Richardson is one of 12 semifinalists for the 2013 Rotary Lombardi Award, the Rotary Club of Houston announced on Thursday.

Richardson is just one of four offensive players and the lone Big 12 representative on the list.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native, is the anchor for a Baylor offensive line that is part of an offensive unit that leads the country in total yards (718.4 ypg.), scoring (63.9 ppg.) and is seventh in rushing offense (301.1 ypg.). The Bears are surrendering only 1.14 sacks per game, which ranks 21st nationally.

This season, Richardson has led BU with 52 knockdowns through seven games. He also leads the team with an 89.9 percent coaches' grade. Richardson is a third-year starter with 35 career starts.

Last year, Richardson received second-team All-America honors from the Associated Press and SI.com, while being named a unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection. He was also tabbed the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year by the league's coaches.

The 44th annual Rotary Lombardi Award will be presented on Dec. 11 at the Wortham Center in Houston.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is presented annually to the nation's top lineman. Eligibility for the award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
