DENTON, Texas- Texas A&M grabbed an opening-night victory 67-48 over the North Texas Mean Green. The Aggies' junior college transfers, Achiri Ade and Tavarsha Scott-Williams, both posted double-digit scoring efforts in their debuts.

Ade scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her senior college debut, both of which led the team. Scott-Williams scored 10 points with five rebounds.

"This opener was a lot better than last year's when we lost by two," said Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair. "I thought it is a work-in-progress. We got off to a great start, our percentage shooting was good. Karla Gilbert and Achiri Ade were great at doing their thing inside."

"Jordan Jones did a great job at the point guard position all night," added Blair on the DeSoto native's nine point, six assist performance, which was one short of her career-high in assists.

After an evenly matched start for the first five minutes, The Aggies (1-0) started to pull away, going on an 16-2 run to pull ahead 24-8 and never looked back, never allowing the Mean Green to close within single digits after that point. The Aggies led 37-23 at halftime led by Karla Gilbert's 10 points at the break.

Gilbert finished the game with 12 points and posted seven rebounds with two blocks. The last time Texas A&M played at North Texas, her mother, Nelda Roy, scored 17 points for the Mean Green.

North Texas (1-1) closed the deficit to 10 points on three separate occasions in the second half, but a 9-0 run put the Aggies up 52-33 with less than 12 minutes left in the game.

Texas A&M has won four consecutive games in the DFW Metroplex and eight of their last nine season opening games. The women's basketball program is 27-13 all-time in season openers.

The 12th Man from the Dallas-Fort Worth area showed up in numbers, as the 1,791 fans in attendance were the most for a North Texas women's basketball home game since 2011.

Texas A&M returns to Reed Arena on Wednesday, November 13 as it hosts Military Appreciation Night as the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers (0-1) visit at 7 p.m.
