Richardson, Dixon Garner Additional All-America Honors

Posted: Updated:

WACO, Texas – Baylor senior offensive lineman Cyril Richardson and senior safety Ahmad Dixon collected more All-America honors with the release of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the FOXSports.com All-America teams on Wednesday.

Richardson was a first-team selection by all three organizations, while Dixon was tabbed an All-American by the AFCA.

Richardson has now been recognized on 11 All-America teams, including the five recognized by the NCAA (Associated Press, Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Walter Camp) to earn unanimous All-American status.

The senior lineman is Baylor's seventh all-time unanimous All-American, joining Bill Glass (1956), Mike Singletary (1980), Thomas Everett (1986), Santana Dotson (1991), Daniel Sepulveda (2006) and Terrance Williams (2012).

The Fort Worth, Texas, native was a second-team AP All-American last season, making him the fifth two-time All-American in program history. The Outland Trophy finalist is the leader for an offensive line that blocks for America's top offense. The Bears lead the nation in scoring (53.3) and total offense (624.5). Richardson has also tallied a team-leading 83 knockdowns on the year.

Richardson joins James Ray Smith (OT, 1953) and Bill Glass (OG, 1956) as the only Bear offensive linemen to be honored by the AFCA. He is the 16th player in program history to be named an FWAA All-American, and he joins Williams (2012), Robert Griffin III (2011), Jason Smith (2008) and Sepulveda (2006) as Baylor honorees during the Big 12 era. RG3, Williams and Richardson combine to give Baylor FWAA All-Americans in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history. Richardson joins Glass (OG, 1956), Aubrey Schulz (C, 1974) and Smith (OT, 2008) as the only Bear offensive linemen to be honored by the FWAA.

Dixon, a Waco product, is the leader for a Baylor defense that made big strides in 2013. Dixon ranks 24th in the league in tackles per game (5.8), while intercepting one pass and forcing one fumble. With Dixon at safety, BU ranks 17th in total defense (344.0) and 19th in the country in scoring defense (21.2). He has now landed on five different All-America teams, including a first-team selection by Sporting News.

Dixon is now one of three Baylor players to be recognized by the AFCA as an All-American at the safety position, joining Everett (1985 &1986) and Adrian Robinson (1995).

Richardson and Dixon give Baylor two AFCA All-Americans in one season for the first time and are the 16th and 17th AFCA selections in school history. The duo's selections coupled with Williams' inclusion last season marks the third time in program history the Bears have had AFCA All-Americans in back-to-back years.

Three other Baylor players, Antwan Goodley (Athlon Sports, 3rd team; CBSSports.com, 2nd team; SI.com, honorable mention), Bryce Petty (Athlon Sports, 2nd team; SI.com, honorable mention) and Spencer Roth (SI.com, honorable mention) have been recognized on at least one All-America team.

Five All-Americans are the most for Baylor in any single season, surpassing the four honored in 1951.

Baylor (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) will next play in the 2014 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl vs. 15th-ranked UCF (11-1, 8-0) in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 1. The Bears will be appearing in a bowl game for a fourth straight season for the first time in program history. The contest is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT kick from the University of Phoenix Stadium.
