Football Trio Tallies More All-America Honors

Posted: Updated:

WACO, Texas – Baylor senior safety Ahmad Dixon, junior receiver Antwan Goodley and senior offensive lineman Cyril Richardson earned more All-America honors with the unveiling of the Lindy's and Phil Steele All-America teams recently.

Richardson was a first-team selection by both publications, while Dixon was tabbed a second-team All-American by Lindy's and a third-team honoree by Phil Steele. Goodley joined Dixon on Phil Steele's All-America third team.

Richardson has now been recognized on 13 All-America teams, including the five recognized by the NCAA (Associated Press, Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Walter Camp) to earn unanimous All-American status.

The senior offensive lineman is Baylor's sixth all-time unanimous All-American. He is also the program's fifth two-time All-American.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native, led BU with 83 knockdowns on the year. The Outland Trophy finalist is the leader for an offensive line that blocks for America's top offense. The Bears lead the nation in scoring (53.3) and total offense (624.5).

Dixon, a Waco product, is the leader for a Baylor defense that is one of the best in the Big 12 in 2013. Dixon ranks 24th in the league in tackles per game (5.8), while intercepting one pass and forcing one fumble. With Dixon at safety, BU ranks 17th in total defense (344.0) and 19th in the country in scoring defense (21.2). He has now landed on seven different All-America teams, including a first-team selection by Sporting News.

Goodley, a junior wide receiver, leads the Big 12 in receiving yards per game (109.9) and receiving touchdowns (13). Those marks are ninth and seventh in the nation, respectively. The Midland, Texas, product, leads the nation with eight games of 100 or more receiving yards in 2013. He has already been recognized this year by three other publications as a second-team All-American by CBSSports.com, a third-teamer by Athlon Sports and listed as an honorable mention All-American by SI.com.

Two other Baylor players, Bryce Petty (Athlon Sports, 2nd team; SI.com, honorable mention) and Spencer Roth (SI.com, honorable mention) have been recognized on at least one All-America team.

Five All-Americans are the most for Baylor in any single season, surpassing the four honored in 1951.

Baylor (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) will next play in the 2014 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl vs. 15th-ranked UCF (11-1, 8-0) in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 1. The Bears will be appearing in a bowl game for a fourth straight season for the first time in program history. The contest is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT kick from the University of Phoenix Stadium.
