UPDATE: Bomb Threat Evacuation at Texas State University

Posted: Updated:

(KXAN) - Austin bomb experts detonated a suspicious package as Texas State University police made one arrest, after a bomb threat evacuated a residence hall.

Texas State University police sent out a campus wide alert just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday. They shut down the streets around College Inn.

College Inn  is a nine-floor coed dorm, housing 230 students.

The alert was a response to a University police officer reporting suspicious activity in a truck near the LBJ Student Center.  Texas State UPD called in help from the Austin Police Department's bomb squad.

Investigators found a device in the back of the truck that they're describing as a "hoax bomb device."  In the back seat of the truck's cabin, they found a package that they destroyed.  University Police say they can neither confirm nor deny the package in the front was an explosive.

Texas State University Police took one person into custody.  They have not identified that person other than to say he is not a student.

Police evacuated students to the Rec Center, but have since released them to return home.
