Wendy Davis Supporters Caught Mocking Greg Abbott

Posted: Updated:

The political race for Texas Governor is getting ugly.

A new video from Project Veritas allegedly shows Wendy Davis supporters making offensive comments about Republican candidate Greg Abbott.

One woman heard in the video is Lisa Wortham of Battleground Texas, an organization trying to turn Texas into a Democratic state.

The undercover video shows her in a meeting -- allegedly mocking Greg Abbott's disability.

"I'm really wondering how this is going to work out since he's in a wheelchair and most the slogans are 'Stand with Wendy," Wortham says.

Another person in the meeting is overheard saying, "What I think is amazing is he's in a wheelchair, but he has no sympathy for anyone or any way."

Battleground Texas released a comment saying the video is a "hit job" -- and called James O'Keefe of Project Veritas an "admitted criminal."

At one time he faced charges for another undercover attempt.

They say the video is edited and creates impressions that aren't true.

We spoke to James O'Keefe exclusively on Friday afternoon. He says the raw footage is also posted because they're not hiding anything.

"They should apologize to my organization and my journalists," O'Keefe said. "We're exposing their words. It's their words, it's not my characterization of their words. This is what they're saying."

Wendy Davis sounded off about the issue. Her statement said, "The language used in this video about Greg Abbott is abhorrent. Greg Abbott has persevered through great personal challenge to raise a family, have a productive career, and for that he deserves our respect."

Greg Abbott responded to the video saying, in part, "The content of the video denigrating the disabled is unworthy of our great state. Despite the distraction, I will continue my efforts to help all Texans rise in life and achieve their dreams."
