Icy Roads Aftermath

Posted: Updated:

This week's snow brought dangerous ice to roads and highways all over Central Texas.

As cars slid and crashed, Trevor Egbert of 121 Towing & Recovery was working around the clock with his crew.

"I guess they were probably up 'till around five in the morning and we were back up at six going after it again," Egbert said.

They went out on about 20 jobs, but Egbert says some tows were free so they could get people to safety as quick as possible.

"Ya know we're not gonna sit there and haggle on price and anything when people are in a situation like that," Egbert said.

Some cars needed towing to get out of ditches and back onto the road, but with over 25 accidents in Bell County alone -- many cars were damaged or even totaled.

At Big John's Paint & Body in Temple, they're gearing up for Monday and getting ready to help.

"We're flexible, we can come to them," said Chris Sustaita. "We can write them an estimate at their location wherever the location is."

He says most cars take about a week to repair because of ordering parts, but most body shops will help you find a rental car.

"Basically all they have to do is make the claim and we'll take care of the rest," Sustaita said.

Even though some cars will be a total loss, Trevor Egbert says he's happy everyone is safe.

"You can buy a new car but you can't replace a human life and that's really the most important thing," Egbert said.
