NSA tapping apps

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- There is new information tonight on how the NSA continues to collect data.

They may be using your favorite smartphone apps.

NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden released the information today.

The NSA and its British counterpart may be tapping popular smartphone apps such as Angry Birds, Google Maps, even Flickr, Facebook and Youtube.

They use the apps to peek into the tremendous amounts of very personal data those bits of software collect.

That includes age, location, sex and even sexual preferences.

Snowden says information supplements data collection from cell phone carriers and smartphones by tapping into the so-called "leaky" apps themselves.
