Texas Teen Survives Skydiving Fall

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A Texas girl who hit the ground during a skydive is expected to survive.

Sixteen-year-old Makenzie Wethington went skydiving with her father in Oklahoma.

Witnesses say she fell between 3,000 and 3,500.

Wethington suffered multiple injuries. The most severe was a life-threatening fracture in her liver, according to her doctor.

Doctors say she also has a broken pelvis, broken lumbar spine, broken shoulder blade, broken tooth and several broken ribs.

Miraculously she required no surgery for those injuries.

"You understand, I don't know the particulars of the accident as I wasn't there, but if she truly fell 3,000-feet, I have no idea how she survived," said surgeon Jeffrey Bender.

Makenzie was transferred out of ICU on Tuesday in good condition.
