Valentine's Day Reservations and Orders Filling up Fast

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) – From flowers, candies, cards and fancy dinners… Valentine's Day can be a bit overwhelming, but it's even more hectic for the local businesses that thrive off the day of love.

"Valentine's Day is busy, it is crazy busy," Divine Flowers and Gifts owner Ana Fontana said. "We started making orders in December."

Fontana and her crew have been working non-stop preparing for next Friday, their biggest day of the year. She's already ordered 2,000 red roses, hundreds of other colors, thousands of balloons and other gifts, and on Friday she plans to have ten trucks delivering the orders.

"Don't wait until the last minute to order. You're flowers will not there on time," she warned late shoppers. Fontana says last minute shoppers might be able to snag some left over flowers.

Planning a special night out? Well if you haven't already made reservations you might be out of luck. Nice places like Temple's Cheeves Brothers or Pignetti's are almost completely booked and expect to be filled by the end of this week.

"Occasionally people call in December, but right after New Year's they'll start calling for Valentine's Day reservations," Cheeves general manager Rajee Patel said. "Guys if you got a date you want to impress, you should definitely plan ahead… and don't forget the roses."

If you're scrambling to find dinner reservations, you might be able to find some that are earlier in the day or later at night; however most restaurants won't have 6:30 to 7:30 spots available. Those have been already been booked since last month. You could also try to make reservations for the day before or after, those days will still be busy but not as full.

According the National Retail Federation about 54% of Americans plan on celebrating Valentine's Day, and it's estimated more than $17 billion will be spent on things like presents, flowers, candy and nice dinners.
