Portions of Nicholas and Fayette Counties Among the Latest to Benefit from Verizon's Expansion of Its Superfast Network

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va., Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

WHO: Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's largest 4G LTE network and largest, most reliable 3G network.

WHAT:  Verizon Wireless has launched (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) network coverage in Summersville, W. Va., and along portions of U.S. Route 19. 4G LTE empowers Verizon Wireless customers with compatible devices to surf the Web, post status updates and photos, and download files wirelessly at speeds up to 10 times faster than customers on 3G networks.

WHERE: Verizon Wireless debuted its 4G LTE network in West Virginia beginning with Charleston in December 2010. Today, customers in Summersville, Fayetteville, Oak Hill and Mount Hope may now experience the speed and capabilities offered through the innovative products and solutions available on Verizon's 4G LTE network. In addition, the company has expanded its 4G LTE footprint along U.S. Route 19 to include Nicholas and Fayette counties.

BACKGROUND: "4G LTE is changing the way customers interact with the world via next generation apps, devices and solutions-things we couldn't have imagined a few years ago," said Mark Frazier, president–Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. "We were the first to bring 4G LTE to West Virginia in major cities including Wheeling, Charleston and Huntington. By continuing to invest in wireless broadband in West Virginia we're investing in local communities and economies where our customers live, work and play."

Verizon Wireless has the nation's largest 4G LTE network-more than three times larger than any other 4G LTE network. Launched in December 2010, Verizon's 4G LTE network is available in more than 500 markets to 97 percent of the population and covers more than 303 million people in the U.S., including those in areas served by the company's LTE in Rural America partners. Our 4G LTE covers more than 99 percent of the company's 3G network footprint.

Since Verizon Wireless first introduced 4G LTE to West Virginians in Charleston in 2010, the company has aggressively built out its 4G LTE network across the state. Other areas in West Virginia to benefit from the company's 4G LTE expansion over the last three years include:

  • Barboursville
  • Beckley
  • Bluefield
  • Charleston
  • Clarksburg
  • Culloden
  • Dunbar
  • Fairmont
  • Huntington
  • Hurricane
  • Lewisburg
  • Logan

  • Along State Route 7 and Interstate 68 in portions of Monongalia and Preston counties
  • Along U.S. Route 119 in the Clarksburg area
  • Along U.S. Route 250 south of Grafton

WHAT'S NEXT: With the most reliable 4G LTE network, the largest footprint, and deployment of its Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum now adding capacity nationwide, Verizon Wireless is ahead of the competition in terms of quality, coverage and technology. The company will continue its network evolution with the introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) this year, providing customers with a richer voice experience and the capabilities for video chat and video-casting.
