Multiple Accidents Due To Icy Weather Conditions

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Numerous reports of accidents are being reported across Bell County Friday morning.

With temperatures below freezing, any precipitation that has fallen continues to freeze on contact. This is making it very dangerous for roadways, bridges, and even windshields.

KCEN Meteorologists say that this precipitation will continue through the afternoon.

By one o'clock Bell County DPS said they worked between 25 to 30 accidents in the county, including a fatal rollover near Salado where a 16-year-old Round Rock teen was killed.

Temple Police reported 29 accidents within city limits. Belton reported 22 and Killeen worked 32.

Most of the accidents occurred on overpasses and bridges, shutting down parts of 190, I35, 317 and 95 through the morning.

"We normally think of water freezing at 32 degrees, but we know that bridges and overpasses can freeze at warmer temperatures," Thomas Pechal with Temple's Fire Department said.

Please use caution when driving as roads will be very slick. Avoid driving if possible.
