Busy Winter for Towing Companies in Central Texas

Posted: Updated:

Now that the freezing drizzle has passed through Central Texas, people are finally getting a chance to bounce back from the terrible road conditions.

Over 100 accidents were reported in Bell County alone on Friday. One accident near Salado on I-35 left a teenage girl dead.

There were several closures because of the dangerous conditions, but that didn't stop towing companies from getting out to people stranded with wrecked cars.

Affordable Towing & Recovery in Killeen had every truck in their fleet out clearing up accidents.

On an average day, they respond to one call. On Friday, they towed close to ten cars, all of them in bad shape after slippery wrecks.

Owner Tracey Williams came in early Friday morning when the weather was clear, but by 10:00AM phones were ringing off the hook.

"We cut off all tows to dealerships...your normal average towing," Williams said. "Just to free up all our wreckers for inclement weather and emergency police calls."

Most of the cars they towed on Friday are still in their yard as people sort out insurance claims.

Body shops all over Bell County will be busy come Monday when those damaged cars start rolling in.
