Valentine's Day Preparation Underway

Posted: Updated:

It's a busy week for the florists and bakers who make Valentine's Day so sweet.

If you still don't have anything for your special someone, you're probably not alone, but they're prepared for those last-minute orders.

Lois Thompson is a wife, mother of five and cupcake guru.

This week is a busy one for "Mrs. Thompson's Most Wonderful Cupcakes," the business she runs right out of her own kitchen in Waco.

"There will be no sleep on the thirteenth...I'll bake all through the night...for the deliveries on the fourteenth," Thompson said. "So everything is nice and fresh."

She's ready for even more orders to start pouring in.

"Always wait until the last minute. I'm as guilty of that as anybody."

Down the road at H-E-B, the cards and candy are out and people are grabbing what they need.

"All the kids' valentines parties are next week and we need to get them all written on over the weekend," one mom said.

In the H-E-B floral department, they're prepping for a flood of people at the end of the week.

"The gift baskets are very grab-and-go, balloons we'll have grab-and-go," said H-E-B employee Kassie Horton. "But we can also do custom orders on Valentine's Day and the day before too."

They expect the rush and plan ahead, so they know they'll have enough. They put in an order for their flowers about six months ago.

"It's not a worry for us, we have tons of cases ordered," Horton said. "We'll have plenty of flowers for everybody."

Back at Mrs. Thompson's, she's giving some words of advice.

"People need to get their orders in and not just to me, to every shop in town," Thompson said. "I think this is the busiest time of year."
