Car bomb kills two in Kabul

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- ISAF officials in Kabul confirmed that two civilian contractors were killed by an improvised explosive device attack in Eastern Kabul this afternoon.

It's not yet clear if those civilians were American.

American forces immediately responded to the scene.

It has been a very deadly year here in Kabul.

On Jan. 17, a suicide bomb attack killed 21 people including three American civilians at local restaurant.

And on Jan. 4, an ISAF service member was killed in another IED attack.

Regarding today's explosion, an ISAF official released this statement:

"We can confirm two international security assistance force contracted-civilians died as the result of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in eastern Afghanistan today."

The Taliban has escalated attacks here in Afghanistan as the presidential election nears and as Afghan forces prepare to take over the fight.
