North Texas Teen Driver Killed, Two Injured in Wreck

(KXAS) -- A teen driver has died while a second teen and the driver of another vehicle remain in Fort Worth area hospitals with serious injuries following a crash Monday.

The 16-year-old driver, whose name has not yet been released, was killed in a crash on Farm-to-Market 156 south of state Highway 114 at about 5:30 p.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said the teen's car was traveling south on FM 156 when the driver lost control, crossed the centerline and was struck by a pickup truck.

The teen driver died at the scene of the crash. A teenage passenger in the car and the driver of the pickup were taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries.

Both the teen driver and passenger were students in Northwest Independent School District.

"The district is deeply saddened and our hearts are with the families. I know the other student was sent to the hospital, and she is critical," said Emily Conklin, director of communications for the Northwest ISD.

Neither Conklin nor DPS troopers would confirm the crash was related to icy roads observed in the area.

NBC 5's Brian Scott saw evidence of at least a dozen crashes on the stretch of road where the fatal crash occurred.  In all, four people have died on North Texas roadways since Monday afternoon.
