Three Kids Taken To Hospital After Attacked By Dog In Killeen

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Three children were sent to the hospital after they were attacked by a dog on Wednesday night in Killeen.

At 6:15 p.m. Wednesday night, Killeen Police were called out to 5600 block of Elk Ridge Court after receiving reports of a dog attack. Officers were told that several children were playing in their driveway when a nearby dog got out of its fence and ran and attacked them.

When officers arrived, they found the dog dragging a 6-year-old girl by the leg.

The girl, as well as a 5-year-old and a 13-year-old child were attacked.

Officers were able to corner the dog, but when it charged again at the children, officers were forced to shoot and kill it.

The 5-year-old's arm was broken by the attack. All three children were taken to Seton Hospital. The 5-year-old and 13-year-old were treated and released, but the 6-year-old had to be taken to Scott & White Children's Hospital in Temple.

Officials said that the dog was a German Shepherd.

The dog's owners were cited for Dog At Large and Failure To Show Vaccine.

The dog's body was taken to be tested for rabies. The results are expected to come back by Monday.
