Attempted break in thwarted in Killeen

KILLEEN, TX -

(KCEN) --  An attempted break in was thwarted when a resident stopped one intruder and scared away the other by firing two shots.

Killeen Police and the Bell County Sheriff's Department are investigating the situation that occurred Monday morning. The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on Shaw Lane out in the county just south of Killeen.

Deputies say a resident called 911 to report that someone had cut the power to the house and was trying to break in.

Elijah Wong, 22, says he was staying at the house with the family – a mother and her two children. He says the woman woke him up panicking and saying someone was breaking in.

Wong says he grabbed his pistol and ran to the kitchen. About that time someone cut the power off to the house.

"It was pitch black. We told them we were on the phone with the cops and we have a gun," Wong said. "People were banging on the door, and then they kicked in the back door, and I shot a warning shot hoping he would just leave."

Wong says the man then came at him, and that's when he fired another shot at the intruder. At that same time he says another person kicked in the front door, but ran off when they heard the shots.

Deputies say when they arrived moments later, they found one suspect lying in the yard with a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to Scott and White with non-life threatening injuries.

Police brought the second suspect in for questioning. As of Monday evening deputies still have not released the suspects' name, and cannot confirm if the suspects knew the people living in the home.

However, Wong tells us the man he shot is related to the family living in the home.

Bell County Sheriff's Office says they should know within 24 hours if any charges or arrests will be made in the case.
