Nation's Governors dine with Obama

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- President Obama hosted the nation's governors at the White House Sunday night.

During his toast, the president used a quote to illustrate the importance of the nation's governors.

He also poked a little fun at those in the crowd eyeing his job.

"But keep in mind, a wise man once wrote, 'I'm more than contented to be governor and shall not care if I never hold another office."

Among the potential 2016 presidential hopefuls were Republicans Rick Perry of Texas and Mike Pence from Indiana.

The Democrats in attendance included Maryland's Martin O'Malley and Vice President Joe Biden.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie wasn't in Washington for the dinner.

He stayed home to celebrate his daughter's birthday.
