Woman Airlifted After Killeen Crash

KILLEEN, TX -

(KCEN) -- A woman was airlifted to the hospital after crashing her SUV on Fort Hood Street, about a mile and half south of Highway 190 in Killeen on Monday.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. and witnesses say she hit a guardrail, flipped her SUV over the guardrail and into a ditch hitting a large concrete manhole. She was airlifted to the hospital, but witnesses say she was awake and talking to paramedics.

Just moments before the crash, and about half a mile down the road other witnesses say she nearly hit a 16-year-old boy trying to cross the road.

Kevin Brown says he was leaving the Taco Bell on Fort Hood Street, and as he was standing in the median looking to cross, he says the woman was driving down the wrong side of the road.

Before he could move out of the way, he says she hit his arm with her SUV causing the side mirror to break off, and then kept driving.

"God was with me. I probably wouldn't be standing here talking right now," he said when thinking about being one step closer in the road.

Besides being shaken up by the scary situation, Brown says he is okay.

Killeen Police are investigating what caused the woman to lose control. As of Monday night, it is unknown what her condition is.
