Fire Destroys Historic McGregor Home

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN)-- A massive fire destroys historic McGregor home.

The fire started just before 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Brown-Mann House on 6th Street. Neighbors called 9-1-1 after they saw smoke coming out of the house. Within minutes the entire home was engulfed in flames.

"It (house) has been vacant for the past several years," said McGreogr Mayor Jimmy Hering. "It's owned by an out-of-towner who doesn't even come around anymore."

The cause of the fire is still unknown. The state Fire Marshal will conduct an investigation Tuesday. According to Hering there were no injuries.

Several Fire Departments helped put the fire out including Waco, Lorena, Hewitt, China Spring, Valley Mills, and Speegleville.

A house next door suffered minor damage from smoke, water and heat.
