From Broken Down Bank to Boutique Hotel Rural Idaho Gets a Makeover

Posted: Updated:

April 8, 2014. McCammon, Idaho, USA. Rural Idaho’s newest boutique hotel is capturing both history and imagination. This 1906 dilapidated bank building has a new allure thanks to an interior designer with a passion for old buildings.

The Harkness Hotel promises to be a unique and historically inspired retreat for business or pleasure. Situated near the famous tourist destination, Lava Hot Springs, the Harkness Hotel will use modern touches like 16” rainhead showers and designer finishes while keeping history alive. Slated to open in early Summer 2014, the Harkness Hotel will be a modern 8 room boutique-style destination suitable for couples, families and business travellers.

With the project well underway, they remain committed to preserving history while carrying out a not to be missed transformation. This unique hotel will create a space that pays tribute to the building’s first hundred years of history while creating new stories for the next century to come. The 206 Center Street building is undergoing a facelift and renovations in order to become the Harkness Hotel. Aaron Hunsaker and his wife who moved across the country for their dream are the masterminds behind this venture. Aaron has a clear vision for what it will be – and is no stranger to the many challenges of old building renovations having worked as an interior designer in Washington, D.C.

They have infused their cash and labor into this project of love. Now they are asking for the public’s help to help make sure that anyone wanting to stay– including those with limited mobility – will be able to take full advantage with the convenience of an elevator. Elevators were not exactly the ‘norm’ 108 years ago. In order to accommodate wheelchairs and enhance convenience for all, an elevator would fit perfectly at the second entrance. Unfortunately, they can’t do it alone. Elevators are not cheap. Not being the types to give up easily, the family turned to this crowd funding campaign via Indiegogo to raise the $25,000 to make sure they can install one. “Our building is two story, with only a massive staircase granting access to the top floor and we want to make it possible for everyone to enjoy this treasure,” explains Aaron.

Take this campaign to the top floor – with the elevator! Donors get a big thank you and great historical-themed perks. From mugs to owning one of the WWII historical newspapers (circa 1940) discovered during renovations, there are great perks up for grabs. Donate what you can, and tell friends and family to get involved and share the links. Help make the building’s unique history and charm accessible to all.
