Temple ISD School Board Awarded Grant from HEB

(KCEN) -- Winners of the 13th annual HEB Excellence in Education Awards were announced Saturday night during a banquet at Houston's Royal Sonesta Hotel.

Over $430,000 in cash prizes and grants were were awarded personally by HEB Chairman and CEO Charles Butt to the best educators and districts in Texas. Among the recipients were eight educators, two school districts, one early childhood agency and a public school board... the Temple ISD school board.

The Temple school board received a $25,000 grant at the Excellence in Education Awards for demonstrating exceptional leadership and service to the students in the district they serve.

This category honoring a public school board is new and was added by HEB this year.

Legendary journalist and NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw delivered the key note speech to the hundreds in attendance at the banquet.

The winners of the HEB Excellence in Education Awards are nominated by employees and community members in the school districts.
