How to Save on Mother's Day Flowers

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Mother's Day is right around the corner. If you want to show your appreciation with flowers, you only have a few days left.

Local florists say you can save big by avoiding flower websites. They charge high delivery fees, especially at the last minute. Bouquets start around $40 and those typically come in a box, unarranged.

Donna Roach of Wolfe Wholesale Florist says local shops have more flexibility with pricing, especially if you're open about the design.

"The best way to save money this Mother's Day is to call your local florist...tell them designer's choice...the spring mix," Roach said. "Tell them your budget and they'll work with it."
Peonies are very popular for Mother's Day, so they can cost around $30 for just five stems. Other spring flowers like Tulips and Hydrangeas are more affordable during this time of year.

Local delivery fees are generally around $10, so picking the flowers up yourself can also help you save.
