Country Singer Walks 100 Miles To Honor Military

Posted: Updated:

He's walking 100 miles in someone else's shoes.

Country singer Granger Smith laced up his combat boots in Killeen on Thursday for the final day of his Boot Walk, an annual event he started four years ago after visiting troops in Iraq.

He started in Austin on Sunday and ends on Fort Hood on Thursday. The idea is to honor the sacrifices our troops make and raise money to help them and their families.

His goal is to raise $50,000 for a soldier to get a brand new house.

"We get to share this freedom, we get to maintain this lifestyle because men and women are volunteering to risk their lives for that," Smith said.

The walk ends with a concert at Wild Country in Harker Heights on Thursday night at 6:00 PM. Smith is only about halfway to his goal of raising $50,000, but all proceeds from the show will go toward that fundraising.

Members of the military will get into the concert free with an ID.
