Donald Sterling makes desperate plea for forgiveness

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) --  The embattled owner of pro-basketball's Los Angeles Clippers is making a desperate plea for forgiveness, hoping to keep ownership of the team.

"I'm a good member who made a mistake and I'm apologizing and I am asking for forgiveness."

In his first public comments since being banned for life from the NBA, LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling says he's not a racist and that his longtime ownership should count for something.

The interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper comes nearly two weeks after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling, fined him $2.5 million and urged the other league owners to force him to sell the team.

"Am I entitled to one mistake, after 35 years?" Sterling asked. "I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? It's a terrible mistake and I'll never do it again."

The NBA still has to deal with Sterling's wife Shelly, who has a 50 percent stake in the team and wants to keep it.

The NBA, though, is planning on both Sterlings to be out soon.

The league just named former Citigroup and Time Warner Chairman Dick Parsons as interim CEO of the Clippers.
